Galaxy Fold: be careful, it will break!
Galaxy Fold will go on sale in Poland on October 18. Samsung's foldable smartphone has been arousing emotions for six months, not only because of the unusual design, but also because of the price and failure rate of the first copies, through which the Korean company had to delay the premiere. The device will be expensive. In Europe, we can expect prices in the range of PLN 8-9 thousand. Meanwhile, the American company iFixit checked whether for six months Samsung engineers were dealing with the problems of a foldable smartphone.
The American company iFixit rated the repairability of Galaxy Fold at 2/10. To unscrew the smartphone, all you need is a standard screwdriver and many components can be replaced independently of each other. Samsung has made some improvements over the first version of Galaxy Fold. The smartphone has reinforced frames and the protective foil has been hidden in such a way that the user does not feel the temptation to peel it off. The display itself has also been strengthened. Despite this, the device is still very delicate and many components can break down. In the recording below you can see a summary of the Galaxy Fold test conducted by iFixit.
Samsung Although it sealed many places through which dust could penetrate the screen, thereby shortening its life, but it did not succeed everywhere. In particular, it is a hinge. This moving part of the Galaxy Fold responsible for bending the device after closing the smartphone must not be super-sealed. Especially since the screen is glued only on the edges so that the Galaxy Fold bends more easily. However, this makes it even more delicate than in the case of classic smartphones.
The manufacturer does a lot to inform users how to use the device. Samsung has added detailed instructions on how to use the Galaxy Fold, or rather what not to do with it. In particular, we should not try to draw on a bent smartphone with sharp objects or even a fingernail. After assembly, there must be no items such as credit cards, keys, or coins between the parts of the device. The telephone is not resistant to water or dust. This is important because the Galaxy Fold design is conducive to collecting dust in the gaps, in contrast to the well-known lumps of modern smartphones.
Both the recording showing the improved version of the Galaxy Fold and the attached instructions to the device included a warning against sticking elements such as protective films to the screen. We should not break the protective layer, which was done by several reviewers who received folding devices in June. As we all remember, it did not end well. The bent smartphone also uses magnets, which can be important information for people who have implants implanted. In this case, it is better to consult a doctor before using Galaxy Fold.
It is worth adding that Samsung offers customers one display replacement for $ 150. Of course, this applies to the US market and it is not yet known how it will look in Poland. However, it is worth remembering that in the event that the device fails due to the fault of the manufacturer, the customer is entitled to a 2-year statutory warranty, called the warranty. Importantly, if the fault occurs in the first year after purchase, then the manufacturer will have to prove that it was our fault. However, the amount of restrictions that appear with the Galaxy Fold may actually raise concern that users accustomed to fairly solid smartphone designs will be careful enough to handle the Galaxy Fold like an egg. | allthingsblogging.com
