All Things Blogging new Logo

I registered the domain name “” on April 15, 2007. Almost 10 years ago!

My motivation for making the site was pretty straight forward. I just needed a simple guide that I could refer people to when they asked me if I could build them a website.

“No, I can't make a website for you, but here's an easy DIY guide!”

I initially tried to register, but like a lot of other good domains, someone was squatting on it. Meaning someone had registered it just to hold and eventually sell.

The .net version was also taken. So “” would have to do.

I had no idea at the time, but this little .org domain would end up being one my most popular sites.

So why did I change the domain name?

Over the years, I regularly checked on the to see if was available. It stayed registered (and dormant) up until about 2 or 3 years ago when someone finally decided publish a website there.

Unfortunately, when it comes to domain names, the .COM version is king. It's the default. When I say “”, some percentage of people will automatically go to “”. Even I've done it by accident a few times.

When was vacant, it didn't matter. But as soon as someone decided to use it, any work I put into promoting my .org ended up benefiting the .com.

Finding a new domain was not easy. I went through many ideas and registered a lot of domains (don't worry, I will let them expire). After lots of back and forth/ asking opinions/ user testing, I finally decided to go with

All Things Blogging new LogoI moved to the new domain about 1 week ago. The transition was pretty smooth, so hopefully Google will be able to associate all the pages and links from with
